professional guests

we had two professional guests come into our media group to watch our pieces and help review and evaluate our work. Myra was the film professional, so she was the one who evaluated my work. she gave me great feedback on how to improve my work and i am currently in the progress of doing these improvements:
. reframe still shot of jack - focus more on him
. don't say then repeat in writing whats happening
. see if can get past problem of alarm clock
. speed of getting ready
. redo camera shot to have inside cupboard
. try not to do american accent in voice over
with this evaluation and the ones from my audience, i hope to really create a near professional piece

Pimp my Project

  • it adds curiosity about what has happened to civilisations
  • my inspirations are 'shaun of the dead' and 'zombie land' both funny comedies
  • i have tried to keep the sound clear but had a little trouble, recording my voice and adding the sound effects for the rewind scene
  • i made some cuts early on in my film to help stop it dragging on
  • my film opens with different panning shots of an empty village and ends with slow motion shots of chasing with the title of the film
  • the font of the title was america typewriter with the largest setting combined with the colour red to create the sense of danger/horror
  • it is designed mostly for the male gender at ages 15-18
  • when filming my shots i tried to avoid any footage of cars, bikes or people to help add the sense of alone/silent atmosphere
  • i used ambient light for most of my shots
  • i am confident that i have blended a variety of shot types
  • the first voice over needed to be improved, so i rewrote it and the second glitch i came across was a computer error that reset the sound system on my film, so i had to redo that
  • i used some foley effects to improve the quality of my piece, mostly with the morning scene and ending scene
  • i varied using handheld shots with tripod-based shots, i used the handheld shot without the chase scene to bring the audience into the film by adding the fact of what the chasing people are seeing

i have taken my reviews and have changed my title of my product and have recorded a new voice over. the only thing i have left to do is to create and add a logo to my film, this will be my next objective.
i am much happier with my new product but still believe a have a few things to sort out.

audience review: Ben F - the camera work is good and the editing is done to a good standard. the overall film has improved but some of the background sound comes though which makes it difficult to hear what the narrator is saying.

review

from the reviews i have received from the teacher and other students, i'm going to work on redoing the voice over and possibly changing the title of the film. i will also need to create a logo for my blog at the start of the film, so will be doing some research into past products of logos and will reuse the edirol (voice recorder) hopefully soon, and will look into other film titles.

film review

i was happy with my final production i created, if i had to make any improvements then it would be to redo the voice over as it can be more clear. i was happy with the editing of my film throughout along with some of my camera shots. i would change the music to test the different effects i can get from my audience

audience review:
Dan.R - "It's paced well and no parts seem slow. At times, the narration is hard to understand and it sometimes clashes with the music, but overall it's highly enjoyable".

Ross.A - "I think the film is very good. I really like the flashback and the narration" NOT

Edirol

by using this piece of equipment i have managed to add a voice over to my film for media
first thing i had to do was to decide what part of my film intro would have the voice over
secondly i had to create a short script of what i was going to say
finally i only had to record my voice using the device and then import it onto the computer
the end result in my opinion was successful

women in media

http://www.guardian.co.uk/media/audio/2011/dec/09/media-talk-podcast-women-in-the-media
through this link i have learned that there is a much lower percent of women within the media
78% of newspapers are written by men
72% of interviews on tv are men
84% of people on the radio are men
there have been arguments about why this is:
child care
women are less likely to push themselves to get jobs
men are respected the more they are on tv - women are got rid of

because of these facts i'm going to try and make some changes in my film to include more women within my production that i originally had.

Media film idea

this is an idea i came up with that i thought i could design my film on for media
Due to all the riots going on in England the government has had research done to improve teen’s behaviour through biological treatments. Their research has lead them to create a drug tablet that calms down the youths and improves their behaviour. The tablets are disputed through school cafes to the students, the results are conclusive that the youth’s behaviour has improved substantially. Unexpected results occur in some cases causing the subjects behaviour to decrease rapidly and cause violent outbursts. The number of cases starts to rise. Riots start to appear all over England becoming more violent every day. Within 7 days most of England has become a ghost town and only a few people now have survived, most of which are subjects of the tablet.
It is said that God create humanity. Now Humanity has undone Gods work

Film intro example 2

Zombieland

the intro of Zombieland starts with a camera shot using a hand held camera to give you a sense of being in the film. it has a voice over describing what has happen so far. the intro credits uses scenes of zombie attacks in ever day situations to add a sense of humor.
i plan to use the voice over and the hand held camera shot in my film

Film intro example 1

Shaun of the dead

the beginning of shaun of the dead introduces the main characters straight away using close up shots, it alsos tells you how they are connected to each other. the film starts at the present before the zombie event has started. the intro credits are shots of every day jobs and life being done in a dull way to add a sense of humor that people are acting as life-less being before the zombies actually arrive.
using this film intro i will use the idea of adding a sense of humor at the start of my film

shot example's

these are just a few shot examples i will be using in my preliminary task for media
within the first two it includes the 180 degree rule and the last shot is a birds eye view of the players around the table

equipment and props

for my preliminary task i won't be needing that much equipment and props

Clothing: as the scene is of a poker game then the clothes should be smart or casual
i will use my poker set i was given as a gift to use as a prop in the scene : cards
                                                                                                            . chips

Mr Gallop has kindly given me one of the media cameras to record my preliminary task so i will be ready to upload onto Imovies

Cast

my cast will consist of a few people i play poker with
James - dealer
Laura - player 1
Max - player 2
Jame - player 3
Dan - player 4

preliminary Task

l have to make a short film and add in the 180 degree rule. I have named my clip 'Poker' as this consists of a real life poker game i will film of my mates playing a game on one of my poker nights, in this short piece i am adding in the 180 degree rule.

This is the 180% rule which we have include in our preliminary task,The 180° rule is a basic film editing guideline that states that two characters (or other elements) in the same scene should always have the same left/right relationship to each other. If the camera passes over the imaginary axis connecting the two subjects, it is called crossing the line. The new shot, from the opposite side, is known as a reverse angle.

Imovie

Mr Gallop arranged for a guest to come in, to teach us how to use Imovie.
he was called james and he helped us to learn what we can do using our short 180 degree clip using Imovie,
we learned how to add special effects to our clip such as changing the shot from normal to an olden colour, or into a cartoon etc...
he taught us how to add sound effects to the clip
how to add text to the clip
after we learned how to use Imovies properly he taught us how we can put our finished clip onto the internet on such sighs like youtube, and he also taught us how to burn the clip onto a blank DVD

5.as character reachs pocket for canned drink, i'l have a voice over talking about where everyone one is, etc...
6. close up of can as character begins to open (diegetic sound of the lid opening)
7. light music of the song "Schools out" as the students rush out of the buildings and from around the corner
8. music gets louder as they get closer to main character
9. screen goes black just as they reach the main character and moves on to multiply scenes of mental students attacking civilians with intro credits (big credit of the words schools out as the music reachs those words in the song)
10. as music fades so does the screen with text saying a few days earlier
